Vic: Boy charged over injuring police, ambulance officer

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with conduct endangering life after allegedly causing
serious leg injuries to a policeman and an ambulance officer by ramming them with a car.

Spokesman Senior Constable DAVID GAMBLE says the boy from Rosebud West on Melbourne's
Mornington Peninsula had also been charged with theft of a motor car and other assault.

The incident occurred in the central city about 7pm (AEDT) last night.

Police say a constable in his 20s and an ambulance officer went to the corner of Swanston
and LaTrobe Streets after receiving a report that a man was asleep in a car.

When the officers approached, the man woke up and allegedly reversed the vehicle hitting
the policeman and an ambulance officer with the open driver's side door, knocking both
to the ground.

The car, allegedly stolen, stopped a few metres away and the 16-year-old driver was
arrested by other police at the scene.
