Monroe trustees name leadership, committee posts

MONROE TWP., Miami County -- Monroe Twp. Trustees appointedMartin English as the 2011 board president at its 2011reorganizational meeting on Jan. 3.

Phil Cox was named the board's vice president this year.

The trustees also agreed to set the regular board meetings for 7p.m. on the first and third Monday every month in 2011. If a Mondayfalls on a holiday, the meeting will move to the Tuesday after theholiday.

Representing the township at local organizational meetings are:Cox, Tipp Monroe Community Services; Trustee Ron Thuma, Tipp MonroeCable Access Commission; English, Miami County Council, Tipp CityPark Board and Miami County Bike Trail Task Force.

Special Projects Administrator Mary Lou Wilson will be analternate on the Bike Trail Task Force. She will also represent thetownship at the Honeycreek Water Shed meetings.

Other committee assignments include Thuma on the Miami ValleyRegional Planning Commission board of directors, with Cox as analternate; Cox on the MVRPC Technical Advisory Committee, withEnglish as alternate; English and Fiscal Officer John Skolnicki onthe Public Records Archives Disposal Committee; Cox heading theaudit committee along with Skolnicki; and Thuma on the CyberSecurity and Internet Committee, with the township contractedcomputer technician.

English will continue as the trustee to sign the MS4 StormwaterPermit and also noted as the one responsible for overall managementand implementation of each minimum control measure in the StormwaterPermit. Wilson has been appointed the staff contact for Phase IIStormwater Permit.

During the regular Monday night meeting, the trustees alsoapproved contracts once again with the Tipp Monroe CommunityServices and the Tipp Monroe Cable Access Commission.

The TMCS additional funding from the township will remain thesame as in the past four years and will equal $17,700 in 2011. Thissum will be paid quarterly in installments. Another $1,000 for themobile meals program is offered by the township if needed.

The contract with Cable Access Commission in 2011 is to help fundtheir operations and totals $26,000. The sum is derived from thefranchise fees collected within the unincorporated areas of thetownship and will be paid out in $13,000 semiannual installments tothe commission on June 1 and Sept. 1, 2011.

The trustees also agreed to pay MVRPC membership fee of $2,818.28in 2011 and to approve a retainer with attorney Wanda Carter ofNewhouse, Prophater, Letcher and Moots, LLC for expertise inannexation issues when needed.

At the year-end meeting held by the trustees on Dec. 31, thetrustees agreed to keep 2011 township cemetery rates, includingindigent burials, the same as published in 2010.
