Qld: Opposition accuses government of "mates" deal at Lang Park

Queensland's opposition has called for work on the controversial Lang Park development
to stop, claiming a Labor mates deal is set to blow out the cost by $500 million.

Queensland Liberal leader DAVID WATSON accused the state government of striking a deal
with Brisbane Lord Mayor JIM SOORLEY to approve the super-stadium development.

Dr WATSON says the development is a second-rate super stadium at a third-rate location
based upon a Labor deal. His attack follows Queensland Rugby Union's rejection yesterday
of a move to Lang Park from the Queensland Reds' home ground Ballymore.

Dr WATSON says contracts for Lang Park's redevelopment are yet to be finalised, with
costs already $100 million over budget and up to 8,000 seats being slashed from the plans.
