NSW: Tasmanian Tiger on show at the Australian Museum

The Australian Museum in Sydney is displaying a Tasmanian Tiger exhibition from today.

On loan from the Museum and Art Gallery of Tasmania, the exhibition features the world-famous
pickled pup, which is being used in an ambitious project to clone the Tasmanian Tiger.

The last Tasmanian Tiger, also known as Thylacine, died in 1936.

PATRICK FILMER-SANKEY, deputy director of the Australian Museum, says scientists still
hold serious hopes of cloning the Thylacine and are currently extracting DNA from the
alcohol- preserved pup.

The scients have said that if all goes to plan, it could be as little as 10 years before
the wolf-like, carnivorous marsupial thylacine walks again.
